In astrology New Moons are a pretty big deal. 

New Moons are the perfect time for reflection, rejuvenation and manifestation. The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. Every 28-30 days the universe gives us a fresh new start and a new beginning, giving us the opportunity to set new intentions, desires and wishes we would like to manifest.

In the world of astrology each New Moon takes places in a different constellation of the zodiac, bringing its own unique special vibe.

Each New Moon takes place in the zodiac sign of the current astrological season, meaning whichever zodiac sign the sun is currently in is where the New Moon will take place. For example, if the sun in is in Aquarius then the New Moon will take place in Aquarius.

What is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the moon and the sun meet in the sky. This is what astrologers call a conjunction. A New Moon is invisible from the earth. You will not be able to see a New Moon in the sky. This is because during a New Moon the moon is between the earth and the sun and this alignment of the Sun, Moon and Earth leaves the shadowed side of the moon pointing towards earth. Remember the moon doesn’t create light it only reflects sunlight and since the dark side of the moon is facing earth we cannot see a New Moon in the sky. 

However, as each lunar cycle begins to progress we begin to see partial parts of the moon appearing throughout the month until we reach a beautiful bright Full Moon lighting up our skies. This is because the sun and the moon are now opposite each other. This is what astrologers call an opposition. 

However, for us astronomy lovers out there – there is one special occasion when we can see a New Moon and this is during a solar eclipse. During this time it is possible to see a very thin lunar crescent across our skies at the time of a New Moon, but we must have access to specialised equipment to do so.

Why are New Moons so powerful? 

Think of New Moons as a little present from the universe. Every 28- 30 days the universe grants us a fresh new start. New moons are the perfect time for new beginnings allowing us to set new intentions and goals to manifest.

During a new moon we are collectively supported as a planet to tap into our manifestation abilities. It is important to know which energy to focus on during each New Moon to help you align with the specific areas the universe is bringing your attention to. The lunar manifestation cycle takes place over a 6 month period. It starts when the New Moon is in one zodiac sign and continues until there is a Full Moon in the same zodiac sign.
